Description: Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, Inc. has been serving the local community for 100 years as an independent Goodwill affiliate. While most people recognize Goodwill as a retail thrift chain, that is only a portion of the Goodwill mission. Goodwill is a nonprofit, social service agency dedicated to improving the lives of all people by providing skill-building programs and services needed to help remove common barriers to good jobs and independence. The stores provide revenue to help fund these programs and serve as job training sites. In the pages below, find out how shopping and giving to Goodwill supports the local community.

Description: Prior to the opening of CHaRM, hard to recycle materials and hazardous waste were collected during scheduled events throughout the year by the Solid Waste Department. A CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) is a one stop drop for items that can’t be recycled at the curb or at the Athens-Clarke County recycling drop-off sites because they are deemed "hard to recycle" due to their nature (chemical composition, hazardous components, size, distance to end-market, etc.). The first CHaRM in the United States was established in Boulder, Colorado and opened in 2001. Funding for the Athens-Clarke County CHaRM was made possible through the approval of the 2011 SPLOST. This funding provided improvements to the old Solid Waste Department location at 1005 College Avenue as well as much needed equipment for processing. The new CHaRM facility opened on November 9, 2015 which allowed for customers to bring hazardous and hard to recycle materials year round. Purchase of equipment as outlined in the Project Concept continues to be purchased as the facility continues to expand and take additional recyclable materials.

We are also voluntary participants in the WDNR Green Tier Program. Today the risk of a data breach is very real and many companies have and continue to realize the negative impacts from these events. The effective and secure end-of-life managemetn of technology is more critical than ever and many companies simply don't know what to do with their outdated equipment. We offer needed solutions to provide confidence to our clients and ensure their security. We also offer electronics collections so if a community or business is interested in putting an electronics recycling collection together we provide the instruction, expertise and resources for running successful events.
