Description: The Eaton County Department of Resource Recovery (ECDRR) is the designated implementing agency responsible for the development and administration of the County Waste Management Plan under Public Act 641. In 1993, a Solid Waste Ordinance was enacted in Eaton County with the purpose of protecting and promoting public health, safety and welfare of residents. Through the Solid Waste Ordinance, solid waste collection, transportation, delivery and disposal can be regulated, residents and businesses are provided incentives to recycle in order to reduce the volume of solid waste disposed, and the environment is preserved and improved. ECDRR is a resource to Eaton County residents. Tips on recycling, reuse and waste reduction are readily available during office hours, Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm at (517) 543-3686. Special collection events are organized each year to accommodate the proper disposal of wastes such as Household Hazardous Waste, Electronics, Scrap Tires, Books, and more. Click on UPCOMING EVENTS for details. Year-round programs include Collection Points for the following: Household Batteries, Cell Phones, Mercury Thermometers, and Cooking Oil Recovery. The Freon Recovery Credit Program and a Medical Sharps Mail-Back Program are also available. Click on Resource Recovery Programs for details. ECDRR provides information from local recycling centers but each center operates under the municipality in which it resides. Description: Alpena Resource Recovery Facility (ARRF) is a one stop recycling facility. Residents in Alpena County pay $20.00 a year on their taxes to operate ARRF. Residents from out of county must get a permit to use our recycling bins, either by stopping by ARRF, or sending a check for $20.00 to NEMCOG PO Box 457, Gaylord, Mi. 49734 On the web go Alpena Recycling-Discover Northeast Michigan. On our home page you will find "What do I do with", click on an item you wish to recycle or dispose of. Even better fill out the information on the left and our Recycling Genie will do all the work for you. The Genie will direct you to either dispose of, direct you to the nearest recycling bin, or bring the item to ARRF for recycling. We have 9 site in Alpena County that residents can drop off recyclables. These sites are listed on our home page on the Web. Contamination is a very big problem. On each of the 9 recycling bins is a list of items to recycle, and not to recycle. We ask that you pay close attention to not to recycle. We have an annual free electronics day for Alpena County residents held on the last Saturday of April each year. We also have on the 1st Saturday of May of each year a free countywide cleanup day.
