Description: Anyone can bring their recycling to this facility but must pay in the office, $5.00 per truckload. If you are a City of Houghton resident and you have missed your recycling day, please still enter the office and let them know your address and what you are doing. Please see below for the full listing of acceptable items. HOUGHTON CITY AND HANCOCK CITY RESIDENTS ONLY CURBSIDE RECYCLING MUST BE AT THE CURBSIDE BY 7AM ON YOUR SERVICE DAY. RECYCLING MUST BE IN BINS or TOTES SO CONTENTS CAN BE IDENTIFIED. Please follow the guidelines below. All items must be cleaned of food/organic matter and liquids. Description: The DJ Root Recycling Center has been recycling in our community since 2010. It was formally the Shiawassee County Community Mental Health Recycling Center. The Recycling Center was dedicated to the late DJ Root on April 26, 2013, who helped develop the Recycling Center from the beginning. The DJ Root Recycling Center's main focus is helping individuals with disabilities gain the skills they need to help themselves gain employment within our community. So while you are recycling and helping to reduce items in the landfills, you are also helping people develop and gain new job skills. We are strictly a paper recycling facility, meaning we accept all paper products: Hard cover and paperback books, office paper, newspaper, magazines, paper bags, shredded paper, cardboard, phone books etc. We are unable to accept: plastics, Styrofoam, glass, metals, and electronics. The DJ Root Recycling Center also offers a Paper Shredding Service that is free of charge. If you have old tax records, bank statements, credit card statements or any other confidential material, bring them to our facility to be shredded. Everything you bring that is confidential is kept in a locked bin, in a locked room and that bin is not unlocked until it is time for it to be shredded. Everything you bring will be shredded within 30 days and a letter can be sent to your home or business letting you know that the papers have been destroyed. Everything you drop off at our center is free, there is no charge for any of the services we offer. Although our services are free of charge, in order to have the products we need and to create more jobs, we need support from our community. We know this service has value to you. Please consider a tax-deductible donation in an amount you feel reflects that value after using our service. Your generosity will help make a difference in our community, and on the lives of the people we serve.

Description: American Waste is a privately-owned and operated family business, founded by Edward Ascione Sr. in 1971, and established as American Waste by his sons Eddie and Michael Ascione in 2002. We have 10 locations and 400 employees in Michigan. We operate two Material Recovery Facilities: • Traverse City single stream residential and business MRF, operational since 2011 • Kalkaska construction and demolition MRF, operational since 2008 We offer curbside recycling in Grand Traverse County, and operate 50 drop off recycling centers throughout Northern Michigan. Our Traverse City MRF processes recycled materials from 19 Michigan counties: Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee and Wexford counties in our surrounding area, and also Bay, Clare, Crawford, Genesee, Ingham, Mason, Oscoda, Otsego and Roscommon. We recycle up to 115 tons of material a day, and ship out 120 semi loads per month full of steel, aluminum, OCC, mixed paper, office paper, natural HDPE, colored HDPE, PET, and mixed plastics. 99% of the materials we receive are recycled or reused.

Description: Maria, founder of Unlimited Recycling established in 1999, is a “One-Stop-Shop” company specializing in waste disposal management, waste assessments and recycling services for solid, universal, sorted office and organic waste. The high demand and awareness in waste reduction/recycling has given the company an opportunity to expand services into building cleanouts. In addition, they offer equipment rental, including compactors, balers and dumpster roll-off services. Maria is an Alumni member of Stanford Graduate School Of Business of Stanford, CA and a mentor for the Stanford University Hispanic Entrepreneurship Program. She graduated from the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurs Leader Program in Cohort #3, winning Unlimited Recycling, Inc. 1st place in SLELP 2016 video competition. Unlimited Recycling has been recognized by the State of Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, and the Macomb Regional PTAC for her determination, efforts and success. In addition, she received excellent ratings from the United States Army for the completion of a 5-year waste and recycling contract. Unlimited Recycling graduated with honors from the SBA 8(a) program in 2012 and is currently a member of MDOT, Wayne County Airport Authority, WEBNC and Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
