Since its first recycling bin was placed in 1991, Midwest Recycling has kept more than 70 million pounds of clothing, household textiles, and shoes out of local waste streams, placing them in the hands of persons in need. Midwest Recycling has approximately 5,000 donations bins located throughout Michigan and parts of Ohio. Description: Great Lakes Loan Closets provides a directory of organizations that accept medical equipment. These organizations lend the medical equipment to members of the community who are recovering from illness or accidents. Most organizations do not charge people to borrow the equipment, while some charge a nominal fee to help cover the cost of the program (cleaning supplies, equipment parts, office supplies, etc.) Equipment typically accepted includes: Wheelchairs, Walkers, Canes, Quad Canes, Crutches, 4-Wheeled Walkers (Rollators), Bath Chairs, Bath Transfer Benches, Raised Toilet Seats, Commodes, etc. There are also programs listed that accept hearing aids. The hearing aids are used to help people with hearing loss.
