Description: PaperGator is a community recycling program where non-profit organizations, primarily churches and schools, get paid for collecting paper. We supply the recycle bin and the freight; the organization supplies the location for the bin which is available for the surrounding community to donate their paper waste materials. The program has over 600 paper drop off locations in Western and Mid-Michigan. Description: Anyone can bring their recycling to this facility but must pay in the office, $5.00 per truckload. If you are a City of Houghton resident and you have missed your recycling day, please still enter the office and let them know your address and what you are doing. Please see below for the full listing of acceptable items. HOUGHTON CITY AND HANCOCK CITY RESIDENTS ONLY CURBSIDE RECYCLING MUST BE AT THE CURBSIDE BY 7AM ON YOUR SERVICE DAY. RECYCLING MUST BE IN BINS or TOTES SO CONTENTS CAN BE IDENTIFIED. Please follow the guidelines below. All items must be cleaned of food/organic matter and liquids. Please crush or flatten cardboard and plastic materials where possible. Description: The DJ Root Recycling Center has been recycling in our community since 2010. It was formally the Shiawassee County Community Mental Health Recycling Center. The Recycling Center was dedicated to the late DJ Root on April 26, 2013, who helped develop the Recycling Center from the beginning. The DJ Root Recycling Center's main focus is helping individuals with disabilities gain the skills they need to help themselves gain employment within our community. So while you are recycling and helping to reduce items in the landfills, you are also helping people develop and gain new job skills. We are strictly a paper recycling facility, meaning we accept all paper products: Hard cover and paperback books, office paper, newspaper, magazines, paper bags, shredded paper, cardboard, phone books etc. We are unable to accept: plastics, Styrofoam, glass, metals, and electronics. The DJ Root Recycling Center also offers a Paper Shredding Service that is free of charge. If you have old tax records, bank statements, credit card statements or any other confidential material, bring them to our facility to be shredded. Everything you bring that is confidential is kept in a locked bin, in a locked room and that bin is not unlocked until it is time for it to be shredded. Everything you bring will be shredded within 30 days and a letter can be sent to your home or business letting you know that the papers have been destroyed. Everything you drop off at our center is free, there is no charge for any of the services we offer. Although our services are free of charge, in order to have the products we need and to create more jobs, we need support from our community. We know this service has value to you. Please consider a tax-deductible donation in an amount you feel reflects that value after using our service. Your generosity will help make a difference in our community, and on the lives of the people we serve.

Description: American Waste is a privately-owned and operated family business, founded by Edward Ascione Sr. in 1971, and established as American Waste by his sons Eddie and Michael Ascione in 2002. We have 10 locations and 400 employees in Michigan. We operate two Material Recovery Facilities: • Traverse City single stream residential and business MRF, operational since 2011 • Kalkaska construction and demolition MRF, operational since 2008 We offer curbside recycling in Grand Traverse County, and operate 50 drop off recycling centers throughout Northern Michigan. Our Traverse City MRF processes recycled materials from 19 Michigan counties: Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee and Wexford counties in our surrounding area, and also Bay, Clare, Crawford, Genesee, Ingham, Mason, Oscoda, Otsego and Roscommon. We recycle up to 115 tons of material a day, and ship out 120 semi loads per month full of steel, aluminum, OCC, mixed paper, office paper, natural HDPE, colored HDPE, PET, and mixed plastics. 99% of the materials we receive are recycled or reused.
