Department of Public Works is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on April 17, 2021. The hours for this event is 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. The department does not collect any hazardous waste materials during normal business hours. This is a special one-day event only!

  • What will be the hours of the event?

    The event runs from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm sharp. Service will not be provided to those who arrive late. No early drop off's will be accepted.

  • Is this event only open to City of Sterling Heights residents?

    Yes. ID's will be checked before entry to the unloading area. A valid proof of residency is required and must be provided to the attendant.

  • Can a business or commercial industry bring their hazardous materials for collection?

    No, this is an event for the residents of Sterling Heights that are attempting to clear their homes of unwanted or unused household hazardous waste.

  • Can I bring forms of waste other than household hazardous waste

    No. Only household hazardous waste will be collected. Please refer to the accepted materials list.

  • Is paint an accepted item at this event?

    Yes, paint is accepted. Please refer to the accepted materials list.

  • Can I bring medical sharps for disposal?

    Yes. Sharps must be contained in a rigid container, such as a coffee can, or detergent bottle. For an added measure of caution, please tape closed the container for safe handling.
