  • What is the Recycled Materials Market Directory (RMMD)?

The Recycled Material Market Directory (RMMD) is an online directory that connects businesses looking to recycle materials they generate with recycling businesses who can process those materials. Listed in this directory are recycling related companies located in Michigan that collect and process a variety of recycled materials, specifically generated from businesses. In the directory you will find specific information about the companies including the area they serve, materials they take, services offered, and their contact information.

  • What can it do for my business?

The RMMD can help a business find a sustainable outlet for surplus or excess material from their operations. Recyclers are able to list their location, contact, and materials collected information so that businesses looking to recycle specific materials at a location near them will be shown their listing when they search for a location to recycle using the system.

  • Who should be listed in this directory?

The focus of the RMMD is on business-to-business recycling. Therefore, any organization that accepts or has the capacity to accept materials generated from businesses should be listed in this directory. If an organization is focused on recycling materials generated by residents and/or the general public, they should be listed in the Michigan DEQ Recycling Directory, found at: www.recyclesearch.com/michigan-directory. Organizations may be and are encouraged to be listed in both directories simultaneously if they process materials from both residential and business sectors.

  • How do I list my facility?

Some recycling organization have already been identified by the Department and listed in the system. If you own or operate an establishment that is already listed, you can contact the Department program manager and have the listing turned over to you to manage. Recycling organizations not already in the system can list their facilities by visiting www.connect.re-trac.com, clicking the “Join” button, creating an account with Re-TRAC, and filling out the appropriate information about their organization. You can also visit a step-by-step tutorial video by visiting www.michigan.gov/deqrecycling.

  • How will it be promoted?

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s Office of Public Affairs and Outreach and the Waste Management and Radiological Protection Division have partnered to develop an education and outreach plan for businesses and the general public to use the system, and recycling organizations to list their information and keep it up to date.

  • Does it cost anything?

No. The Recycled Materials Market Directory is free to use for the businesses tat are advertising services and the residents and businesses looking to recycle materials.
